Top of the World, Mountain Mandala

This painting captures a full 360 degrees of mountain majesty — a mandala of stone and sky, shaped by time and sunlight, and framed by the love of a small but mighty community tucked in the Gunnison Valley. Each peak is a voice in this circle of giants, calling to us in tones both wild and familiar.
 
To the north, rising bold and blue, are the Anthracite Range — old, dignified, dusted with pine and story. Nearby, Carbon Peak stands firm like an anchor, a steady friend in all seasons.
Drifting to the west, there’s the gentle strength of Chipeta Mountain, named for a woman of wisdom and peace. Right next to Chipeta Ouray Peak peeks through — wild-hearted and regal — echoing the spirit of the Ute lands we walk upon. To the  south, the saw-like ridges of Sawtooth Mountain cut the skyline with fierce beauty. Towering above them all is Uncompahgre, standing like a cathedral carved by wind — solemn, proud, eternal. And to the east — oh, to the east! — rises Scott's Peak, capping the circle with quiet elegance. A sentinel of our high desert sanctuary.
 
At the center of it all is you — or rather, us — the Gunnison community. Climbers, bikers, painters, ranchers, poets, students… oh, the students! All drawn to this circle like notes to a melody. This mandala isn’t just mountains and names — it’s a wheel of belonging, of shared trails and potlucks, snowfall and starlight. Each peak whispers a story, and every story is held in the heart of this high valley we call home.
This is Hartman Rocks, where sky and stone sing together — and we, the people of Gunnison, are lucky enough to join the chorus.
